Finally got real headshots. This one I look less like a bitch
I’m a multiple-time Moth winner, writer, storyteller, screenwriter, public speaker, and comedian.
(the truck I lived in for years all over America)
(Climbing in France)
In addition to podcasts, I write for magazines, newspapers, and am working on a book. I perform in NYC, LA, and Europe, where I’m living most of the time now.
(terrifying military base in California)
(how I slept most nights during half my 20’s and now whenever possible)
(Me trying to be fancy in the French Riviera summer 2019, but actually camping)
There are a few things I’m pretty great at. Adventuring and storytelling are two of them. As you can see from my blog, there really isn’t anywhere I won’t go. I’m curious, maybe to a fault and this drives my mother insane. But I like to live right on the edge of my comfort zone in the wilderness and among people. During my 20’s I lived in my truck all over America, during which time I was a white water raft guide, a ski instructor, an Outward Bound Wilderness Instructor, and a climbing instructor.
I bought a one-way ticket to South America in 2012 with no plan and hardly any money and ended up, among other things, picking strawberries in Argentina, climbing in Patagonia, and teaching English in Chile. I lived in New York City for seven years and worked in the film industry that whole time and Los Angeles for over three. I’ve performed in both cities extensively and continue to when I go back.
(Greece 2018- riding a scooter around Europe is far more terrifying than climbing)
In 2017 I moved to Spain without knowing anyone or the town I landed in. It was cool. But I love France more so here I am. This is my home now.
(working/camping on a boat somewhere in Nevada)
(Chamonix, France 2018)
(top of a 12 pitch climb in Red Rocks, Nevada)
If you need to contact me, email me from the address given on this site or contact me through my lit agent.

(Guiding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming)
(before getting gassed at a protest in Chile)
I hope you enjoy cruising this site. I don’t post very often anymore, but there’s almost a decade of travel stories on here from years prior.
Elizabeth Gilbert thinks I’m good at telling stories, so that’s why I even bother. She’s a magical human being and I adore her. She blurbed my book after reading some of my stories.
“Melanie Hamlett is smart and funny and sick and wrong and dark and playful and smart as hell…and I _love_ her.“
-Elizabeth Gilbert, author of NYTimes bestseller Eat, Pray, Love
(⬆️ Fountain of Youth in Florida)
(snuck onto the set of The People’s Court while working on another TV show)
(Climbing in Joshua Tree with my homies on Halloween)
(Not my man-pillow, I swear. I’m just making fun of this hilariously offensive creation. It’s not even comfortable!)
(Climbing in Red rocks 2016)
