NYC: The Safest Place I’ve Ever Lived

After finishing a deadline yesterday at midnight, I left my hotel and walked around my old neighborhood. That’s one of the many things I love about New York. You can walk around at any hour of the night all by yourself in a lot of neighborhoods (even as a woman!) and not be scared. Depends on the hood but Astoria is one of them. In cities like this, people are up at every hour because most people don’t work traditional 9-5 jobs. They do anything and everything. They’re always around! I walked I don’t know how many miles. The only reason I stopped was because I was freezing to death but even still I couldn’t stop. Until my hands were so cold I literally couldn’t bend my fingers and said “ok, enough Melanie.” I found this church I never really noticed before and it grabbed my attention.

I really miss walking. I never do that in LA.
