My dad doesn’t remember falling so the red bruise is really confusing him! Also, I can’t believe how much I look like this man. It’s almost freighting to see a much older male version of yourself.

They let me rewrite my story for the @riskshow book coming out soon (which also features Dan Savage and other famous comedians way out of my league). This version of the story has far more insight and hindsight. Like always, I tackle darkness with humor, so this story about rape and abuse is actually funny. But in a good way, not cuz these topics are funny. If you don’t add moments of humor to tragedy, nobody would ever listen to these stories and then what’s the fucking point of any of this? People can’t handle too much trajedy, so as storytellers we have to figure out a way to walk them through it and hold their hand instead of scaring them or letting them shut down. I’m still most proud of this story than any other. It’s my most popular one too with a couple million listeners I’m told. Which I think is also funny. I had to get raped and almost murdered to get a story in a book lol. Link in bio. My dad’s wearing this hilarious bandage cuz he leaned too far forward in his wheelchair and fell on his head. He’s fine. Just slurping down a shake like nothing happened (he doesn’t remember). But the bad news is he’s now going to be receiving hospice treatment. Apparently that doesn’t mean he’s dying so much as they are shifting his care from prolonging his life to making his life comfortable. He’ll still get treated for minor things, but not major ones. They’re tired of sending him to the emergency room every few weeks. The good part is he will get a ton of attention from extra nurses and stuff. The bad news is they believe he is in the final stage of his life. The Alzheimer’s isn’t what’s actually going to take him out we don’t think but rather his kidney failure stuff. It’s what’s causing all his problems lately. Anywho, I hope he makes it til June. Longer I hope. But at least June. I’ll have two weeks home with him. Also, my stepmom can’t handle another death right now. Losing her mom and dad in less than six months of each other was enough. Losing her husband would be just too much for one person to handle in a year.
